SEMDA Workshop: Empowering Your Clients, Empowering Yourself: Embracing Counseling Strategies for Meaningful Behavior Change

  • Event
  • Friday, April 17, 2020
Details:
As dietitians we know how important it is to use effective counseling techniques to promote behavior change. Yet we often feel ill-equipped to do so due to a lack of training or even fears about scope of practice. In this highly interactive workshop, Marci will utilize a series of case studies to illustrate how dietitians can integrate an array of counseling tools to enhance your work as dietitians. Marci will provide ample time for questions and dialogue. Attendees will be invited to share difficult clinical cases or situations and receive feedback to help work through challenges. By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the difference between providing therapy vs. working therapeutically as an RDN
2. Identify 3 different types of therapies being used for behavior change work: Dialetical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS)
3. Cite 3 different counseling tools dietitians can use to support behavior change in their clients
