Southeastern Massachusetts Dietetic Association (SEMDA) is hosting this October workshop: Bone Health: What Every Nutritional Professional Should Know Michele LaRock, MS, RDN, LDN, Registered Dietitian in Private Practice This talk will describe how specific foods, lifestyle habits, and supplements can both prevent and reverse osteoporosis.


Topics include:



  • Foods and habits that deplete our skeletal system and ways to avoid them

  • Foods and habits that have been shown to enhance bone health

  • Supplements that prevent and reverse osteoporosis

  • Medications and health conditions that deplete bones

  • The role of the microbiome in maintaining strong bones

  • Ideas for incorporating and maximize bone-building foods into the diet


Objectives:



  • Learn the latest science-based, as well as time-honored, approaches to both prevent and reverse osteoporosis.

  • To introduce the medicinal uses and benefits of supplements and foods that can be incorporated into the diet to support and enhance bone health.

  • Identify at least 3 bone depleting practices

  • Identify at least 3 bone building practices


Michele LaRock, MS, RDN, LDN is a Registered Dietitian who specializes in Integrative Nutrition and wellness. A graduate of Bastyr University, she integrates current science with time honored healing modalities to help people reverse chronic illness and manage nutrition-related problems. In addition to teaching in the Dietetic Internship Program at Keene State College, Michele has a private practice in Hadley, MA and also sees patients as part of the team at Integrity Women's Health. She offers one-to-one nutrition counseling, cooking instruction, as well as wellness lectures and interactive workshops.
