Title: CMDA presents “Eating disorders and disordered eating”, by eating disorder expert, Heidi Schauster


Summary: Clients with eating disorders and disordered eating behaviors can be some of the 


most difficult clients to work with as registered dietitians. Even without having a specialty in


disordered eating work, we are all bound to encounter struggles in our clients’


relationships with food and their bodies in our nutrition counseling sessions.


About the Speaker: Heidi Schauster, MS, RDN, LDN, CEDRD-S facilitates an overview of 


nutrition therapy for disordered eating. She will lead participants through the ten non-linear 


steps of healing outlined in her recent book Nourish: How to Heal Your Relationship with Food, 


Body, and Self. Heidi describes how these steps assist clients in doing their work on changing 


food and lifestyle behaviors to build a stronger sense of themselves. Heidi’s two decades of 


work in the eating disorders field, as well as her own recovery history, inform this workshop.


Objectives: Participants will:


1) Identify and describe 10 non-linear steps that facilitate the healing of clients’


relationships with food, body, and self


2) Increase understanding of mindful, intuitive eating principles, as well as common


sense nutrition for healing disordered eating


3) Build their toolbox for assisting clients in listening within for decisions around


hunger, movement, and values-based living in recovery from eating disorders
