Do You Want to Make a Difference for Your Profession and Your Community?
The MDA Public Policy Panel is looking for members who would like to make a difference to increase the visibility of our members and association in the public policy arena. This will not only help you and the association, but also the citizens of Massachusetts, who could benefit from progressive state and national nutrition policy and legislation.
We are looking for enthusiastic members to join the MDA Public Policy Panel. In exchange we will mentor you, including helping you to expand your skills, which just might help you move up the ladder either professionally or in MDA.
Your interest and/or skills in just one of these areas can help MDA to position itself in a more visible and dynamic way. They include:
If you have an interest in any of these areas and are willing to meet via conference call at least six times a year, we need you! MDA is currently focused on prevention and wellness, protecting dietetic licensure and positioning the RD as the credible provider of MNT.

Meet MDA's Public Policy Panel:
State Policy Representative
Responsible for coordinating activities of public policy panel, including conference calls, reporting at MDA board meetings and special activities, such as legislative ‘Day on the Hill.’
Alex Pitkin, RD, LDN
State Regulatory Specialist
Responsible for tracking state legislative and regulatory issues of importance to RDs and DTRs. Seeks opportunities with state agency initiatives and fosters relationships.
Paula Serafino-Cross, MS, RD, LDN
Public Policy Coordinator
Serves as key connection between Academy government relations and MDA grassroots leaders on Academy public policy stances and processes. Leads affiliate preparations for the Public Policy Workshop.
Amy Branham, MS, RD, LDN
Public Policy Research Assistant
Responsible for assisting work of public policy panel. Educates MDA and MSDA members about public policy, maintains list of volunteer members of MDA’s ‘grassroots network’ and assists with annual legislative ‘Day on the Hill’ at the state house.
